The best laid schemes of mice and men go often askew

Yeah...I know...it's been awhile.

My original plan to have everything done by August was ambitious, to say the least. Sadly, "real life" took priority over "reel life" (Get it? See what I did there?) and Juan and I were not able to get together for anything more then a beer in the last 3 months. Juan has been busy with his school in Pasadena and I have been peddling over-priced, gas guzzling SUV's to cool kids and douche bags alike in Beverly Hills.

The good news is that we will be filming (everybody keep their finger's crossed) next week at Jon Boone's Kenpofit in Eagle Rock, Ca. All techniques through 3rd Brown are completed, so we will be filming 2nd Brown and completing the forms and sets. Juan and I have decided to NOT film the extensions, the knife techniques, or the gun techniques. Here's why:

Extensions: Let me say first that we love doing the extensions in a technique line setting. They are fun, exciting, and some of them are just plain cool. We've decided not to film for a few reasons. Mainly, while there is good information in them, I think that the information that's presented in them should ultimately be figured out by a student themselves rather then having it spoon fed to them in the form of an extension. At some point, you have to cut the curriculum umbilical cord and start learning for yourself, and ultimately, GIVE BACK to the art. I feel that many many Kenpoists believe that the art is an endless well of knowledge. More likely, however, is that the art is like a Rorschach inkblot test and everything that's "new" was already there, and therefore, something you already know.

Knife And Gun Techniques: The bottom line is that we believe that if you wish to learn about knife and gun tactics, that you learn from a military or law enforcement expert.

We hope at the conclusion of our series, everybody will be open to some other ideas that we'd like to share. Until then...keep training and keep having fun.
